Bedtime herbs explained
Is chamomile safe if I have a ragweed allergy?
Updated October 5, 2026 · Answer by Noddie Night
Be careful. Chamomile belongs to the daisy family, and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) says people allergic to related plants such as ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds or daisies are more likely to have an allergic reaction to it. Reactions are uncommon but can sometimes be severe. If you have a ragweed allergy, talk to your doctor before drinking chamomile.
NCCIH lists nausea, dizziness and allergic reactions, including severe hypersensitivity reactions, as possible side effects of chamomile. Stop using it and seek medical help if you develop hives, swelling or trouble breathing. An allergist can advise you if you are unsure.
Chamomile turns up in many herbal teas and blends, so read labels. Noddie Night contains chamomile, and its label advises people allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or related plants to talk to their doctor first.
